Lynda Thomas, CEO Macmillan Cancer Support joins key community leaders and figures at the East London Mosque, as part of an initiative to encourage British Muslims to get involved in Macmillan Cancer Support’s famous World’s Biggest Coffee Morning fundraiser.
Yesterday marked the exciting launch of our new initiative with the Baraka Khan Foundation to engage with and inspire support from the Muslim community to help people living with cancer. The wonderful initiative will encourage British Muslims to get involved in Macmillan Cancer Support‘s famous World’s Biggest Coffee Morning fundraiser this year.
The Khan family has been inspired to encourage more Muslims to support Macmillan after the death of their daughter Baraka Khan in February 2016. Baraka Khan was just 22 years-old when she was diagnosed with lung cancer while studying at Cambridge. Her family established the Baraka Khan Foundation to continue Baraka’s legacy of inclusiveness and commitment to public service. Baraka was also a keen supporter of Macmillan and had fundraised for the charity throughout her illness.
The launch was held at East London Mosque and London Muslim Centre and included a speech from Mr Iqbal Khan about Baraka’s beautiful life and moving experience living with cancer. It also included support from Harun Rashid Khan, Secretary General of The Muslim Council of Britain, and Omar Salha, founder of Ramadan Tent Project, who will also be holding an exicting and unique #openiftar to fundraise for us.
